50
million just played their
first show in a year and a
half in Austin Texas at the
Big Starcleaner Party! It was
a short but sweet set, and
ultimately lead to the plan
to play again this April in SF!
50 Million is spread around
the world, Noah in Maine,
Bloomie in Germany, Wade in
SF, and Shell in Brooklyn.
Wade's new band The Reaction
with Kirby Grips bassist Liz
and Wildildlife drummer Will,
just released their first 12"
on Starcleaner Records, and
they were smokin at their
debut SXSW show
in Austin
Texas. Check out The
Reaction
Noah has a design and printing
operation going with his wife
Amy called Pine Cone
and
Chickadee. Check
it out.
He has just joined a new
band called Cougars Kill
Cobras, check
them out too.
Bloomie was in a popular band
in Lipsing Germany called
The Downtown Psychedelics.
They just broke up, but Bloomie
was just in Texas with us, and
will make it out to SF to play
the 50 Million show at
Thrillhouse.
Shell is in shellshag with Jen
from Starcleaners, and they have
a new record out and are
touring with the Slits and King
Brothers this year. SHELLSHAG
Biography
50 Million is a colabiration
between the two Driver
brothers, Wade and John
(Shellhead). Over the last 15
years 50 million has released
more than 80 songs, on 9
different independent record
labels, performed hundreds of
shows all over the country,
and are still recording and
performing now in 2008.
The
music varies from low-fi pop
ballads to experimental
noise
ensembles, from instrumental
loud and fast noise rock
numbers, to sweet acoustic
songs with beautiful lyrics.
50 million's earliest recording
was in 1978, and their most
recent release was in March
2005. Their first official live
show was at the Chameleon in SF
in 1995, after years of playing
togetther at home. Recordings
are done on a 4-track, each
brother doing one track at a
time while mailing the master
back and forth.

50 million is not always a two man
production and over the years they
have enlisted the help of a handful
of great artists and musicians. One
of the people they have turned to
and relied on the most is friend and
bass player Noah Dephillips, also
known as Captain Norlon. Noah has
put so much of his time and energy
into the band that he is considered
a member of the band despite the
fact that he is not always present.
The Captain, who also played with the
Faggz, can be found on the 1998
release titled "bust the action"
and on the split single with
Static Faction from 1996.
Another bass player who also is
considered a member of the band for
putting so much of his time and energy
into touring and recording with
50 million is John Bloomstein, also
known as Bloomie. Bloomie can be found
on the Probe single recorded by Matty
Luv and released in 1997, as well as
the "bust the action" release from 1998.
